i am sf joins Relay for Life

Every year, the American Cancer Society hosts volunteer-driven Relay for Life events across the country, including one in San Fernando. This year, I’m happy to say I’ve joined a team.

I’m now a member of Kristy Sandoval’s Paint the Cure team and we’ll be fundraising from now until the 24-hour relay on July 7 at San Fernando Recreation Park. This means we’ll be holding all types of creative fundraisers and painting a group mural on the day of the event.

You can read about my motivation for relaying on my personal Relay for Life page and, if you’re so inclined, donate directly on the website.

I know it’s not always easy to give, but you can always help by spreading the word and attending forthcoming events. We’re even on Facebook! “Like” us and have your friends “like” the page, too.

i am san fernando is April Aguirre, a writer born and raised in the San Fernando Valley. April bounced around the Valley throughout her upbringing and lived outside of California for a quick minute but always felt most at home in the city of San Fernando. To get at April's heart, FedEx puppies to her door, offer In-N-Out cheeseburgers by the dozen or introduce her to a beer tastier than the last.

[…] What can you do to help? Attend the event, spend some money and enjoy the entertainment. The next day you can head to Myke’s Cafe for recovery mode; my Paint the Cure team will be having a fundraiser as well (for cancer research, an unrelated cause) on Sunday, April 29, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sorry for the shameless plug, but it’s kind of an awesome deal — order a stack of pancakes, french toast, burritos or whatever you want, and 15 percent of the bill will go to Relay for Life.
