MacLeod Ale Brewing Co. won’t officially open until Sunday, June 22, but they recently held a private event and tasting for local bloggers. Beer, the Valley and blogging in one place? You know I was there.
This summer is turning into the SFV’s moment for craft beer. Pac City held their first official event three weeks ago in Pacoima, Macleod is set to become a household name in Van Nuys, and we hear the San Fernando Brewing Company is hoping for a late August opening.
As if all this brewing wasn’t enough to cure my brooding, my fist taste experience at Macleod was a pleasant one. I was a little apprehensive at first about the thought of traditional British ale in the heart of Van Nuys. I was imagining some dark heavy brews that you might crave in the middle of a London winter and not during a 100-degree summer.
But the Little Spree (Yorkshire Pale Ale), the only beer they were sampling the day I was there, was refreshing even when served slightly warmer than other beer (traditional cask ales are served like so).
Tickets for the grand opening are now on sale, but because of the huge response, patrons will only be allowed in for two-hour blocks. Get all the details on their big event here. Food trucks will be there throughout the event, noon-8 p.m.
MacLeod Ale Brewing Co. is located at 14741 Calvert Street, Van Nuys.
